I would also worry about it altering the pH KH and GH of your aquarium because clay tends to have a native pH between 7 and 9 depending on source. Laterite can only absorb small amounts of water. Everything i put in it takes off like a rocket. My only then concern being that perhaps itll be to the detriment of the plants as they will have further to burrow plus how do they cope getting through a membrane.
